HOWTO: Configure BGP Peering Between VyOS Edge and GCP

BGP peering between the VyOS edge and GCP Cloud Router is the control-plane link that makes the HybridOps hybrid WAN work. This HOWTO covers configuring the eBGP session on both sides — VyOS peer declaration and GCP Cloud Router BGP peer configuration — validating bidirectional prefix exchange, confirming path selection between on-prem and GCP workloads, and capturing the routing state as structured run records. The same pattern extends to additional cloud providers as the platform grows.

What this covers:

  • eBGP session configuration on VyOS and GCP Cloud Router with matching ASN and peer IP settings
  • Bidirectional prefix exchange validation: on-prem prefixes visible in GCP, GCP prefixes visible on VyOS
  • Path selection verification and BGP summary run-record capture for the run record
