HOWTO: Commission a VyOS Edge Router via HyOps

The VyOS edge router is the WAN gateway in the HybridOps platform architecture — the node that terminates IPsec tunnels from on-prem, peers with the GCP hub over BGP, and provides a hardened internet-facing boundary. This HOWTO covers commissioning a VyOS instance through the HybridOps Hetzner VyOS edge blueprint: interface configuration, BGP peering, IPsec tunnel bootstrap, NAT rules, and the structured run record that proves the edge is operational. It is the networking layer that all site-extension work builds on.

What this covers:

  • VyOS edge commissioning via blueprints/hetzner/vyos-edge with interface, BGP, and IPsec inputs
  • BGP session bring-up and route advertisement validation: on-prem prefixes visible at the Hetzner edge
  • IPsec tunnel bootstrap and liveness probe records confirming end-to-end encrypted path
